Editing, Or Putting a Chopped Onion Back Together Again
From OpenClipArt |
So I wrote my first romantic horror novella in July, and I plan on pitching it to a few editors in a few weeks. That means it’s time to edit like a crazy woman. Whenever I edit, I imagine I’m putting a chopped onion back together again because I’m adding the layers (character, plot, setting, dialog) to make a complete story. Each layer has to fit together just so to make the perfect whole.
You may not hear from me much while I hunker down and fling onion pieces around. But I’ll soon be finished and smelling like dinner!

I understand your plight completely. I’m withing sight of the finish line myself and getting excited.
Which story is it? Has it passed through CC?

Onions make me cry. I sure hope you’re doing better. 🙂
Reminds me of a scene from a great movie:
Shrek: Ogres have layers. Onions have layers. You get it? We both have layers.
Donkey: Oh, you both have LAYERS. You know, not everybody like onions. What about cake? Everybody loves cake!
Shrek: I don’t care what everyone else likes! Ogres are not like cakes.
If the onion layering doesn’t work out, maybe you should try baking it into a cake.
Have I read this story? Romantic horror? Jeesh, I’d remember that!
P
J – It’s called Salt In the Cupboard, and no, I didn’t put it through CC because of time restraints. I did have a trusty beta read it though.
Stef – I’m not crying. Yet, anyway. 😀
Pam – I’d love to be creamy and smooth like a cake, but I’m not. I’m all awkward because I can’t stay on top of the counter without rolling off. Like an onion. See? No, you haven’t read this story but hopefully you will soon!
Just like Shrek said…hehe the onion has lots of layers. Best of luck with your editing
