Help! My Pocket’s On Fire!

No, not really. But it sure feels like it with this happy birthday Amazon gift card in there! This is truly the best gift out of all the gifts ever. I ask for Amazon gift cards for every single holiday, and lucky me, I usually get one!
So I have a ton of stuff in my online shopping cart, including books and a humongous shark hat. Don’t judge. There are a bunch more books I could order that are on my To Be Read list, but what if I’m missing something? What if there’s a book out there I haven’t heard of, or maybe I’ve heard of it, but I forgot about it, or maybe I’ve heard of it, but it’s not too high on my list because it might be meh, but it’s really great, and I must read it right this second?!?!
Whoa. That would be awful. So I ask you, dear blog readers, what books should I put in my Amazon shopping cart? What am I missing out on? What will make me staple my eyes open to read way past my bedtime?
It could be anything: children’s, YA, adult, fiction, nonfiction, how to make shark hats, what to do if there’s a shark infestation in your toilet, etc. Yes, I’ve already read The Hunger Games. What else ya’ got?

Hey Lindsey. Happy belated birthday! If you like urban fantasy you should try Jenn Bennett’s Kindling the Moon. It’s one of my favourite reads from last year and book two is out on Tuesday! (Squeee!) On the other hand the humongous shark hat sounds like fun too. ; )
Kristen! Hi! I might have to look into Kindling of the Moon. Thanks for the suggestion!
Yay, shark hat.
After that, I would recommend Story Engineering by Larry Brooks as a writing tool. It starts out a bit slow with him convincing you why you need to read the book. Once you get past that though, there’s awesome info on structure and what not that I found to be great!

I remember you talking about this book, J. I’ll have to check it out!
Ohh so many books… I tend to track the books I want to read on Goodreads… recently I got ‘Cinder’ which is a YA book I’ve watned to read for a while…
Tania! You should find me on Goodreads!
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. You MUST read this book. OMG, I can’t say enough about it. It’s an adult fantasy about magic and an amazingly cool circus with an understated romance thrown in. Plus, it’s beautifully written.
Thanks, Shell! I’ve heard of this one – I’ll have to check it out!
Oh yes, I read and reviewed Night Circus for SQ Magazine. Check it out: http://www.sqmag.com/001-20120301-book-review-the-night-circus-erin-morgenstern.html
Also, Cambria Hebert has a neat paranormal YA series out now, starting with “Before”, then “Masquerade”. Check em out.
